Dinos Donuts & a Very Short, Race
Breaking: Playful design meets community impact
The Project at a Glance
FOSTER ALUMNI MENTORS
This project was all about promoting a nonprofit point 5K: a very short, very fun race created to bring people together and raise money without taking itself too seriously. Every year, they have fun with donut stops along the short route, costumes (most notably the inflatable dinosaurs that inevitably show up time after time), and a whole lot of personality baked in.
The deliverables were a single flyer and a social media graphic designed to grab attention fast, clearly share the event details, and give people an instant feel for what they were signing up for. Custom illustrations, playful typography, and bold layout choices worked together to send one clear message right away: this event is about showing up, having fun, and doing some good while you’re at it.
Prehistoric Meets Pastry
THE DESIGN
The flyer was built around illustration-led storytelling, using simple hand-drawn elements that were intentionally designed to look as if they were drawn by a kid. We wanted to make sure to allude to some iconic and traditional moments from past years and keep things feeling fun and youthful. Dinosaurs, donuts, and exaggerated caricatures helped set the tone, while bright typography and strong hierarchy ensured the important details stayed front and center.
Every design choice was intentional: playful visuals to catch the eye, clear structure to guide the reader, and a layout that balanced chaos and clarity. The result feels energetic and lighthearted, while still doing the very real job of informing, inviting, and motivating people to participate.
